There are so many gyms and trainers to choose from in most cities. But especially here in Colorado, where people love to stay active, the list is endless. The key to standing out to your prospective members is by creating consistent content that is authentic to you. Every gym and personal trainer has its differences, like your fitness journey, how you operate, your outlook on a healthy lifestyle, etc., and it’s these differences that will grab the attention of your ideal clientele.

Authentic content shows who you are as a gym or trainer — your brand, as they call it. When you really nail this, you’ll find your type of people who want to join you to support and be supported by other like-minded people. Video is the best way to capture and share this with your community. It’s such an effective medium for gyms and trainers to promote themselves because your industry is visual. Many industries aren’t so lucky, so use this to your advantage!

You have plenty of movement and activity to capture, whether it’s weightlifting, rock climbing, or cycling. And there’s something to be said about seeing others being active that entices movement fanatics. Believe it or not, Instagram is often a good source for getting me off the couch. It’s that whole “stretch envy” thing. I’ll scroll until I see a video of one of my favorite yoga teachers practicing, and I suddenly get the urge to roll out my mat.

Furthermore, this industry thrives on motivating one another, building relationships, and sharing information. You have a ton to work with when it comes to creating video content. While filming videos can be more time-consuming than snapping a photo, videos receive much more engagement and are the most preferred medium online (just consider how TikTok has taken off). So, let’s jump into these different types of videos that will help you grow your clientele and boost your online presence.

5 Videos Every Gym & Personal Trainer Should Be Creating:

1. Brand Anthem / Lifestyle Video

2. Meet the Team

3. Educate & Inspire

4. Promotions, Events, & Classes

5. Member Testimonials

*Final Tips*

1. Brand Anthem / Lifestyle Video

Brand anthems/lifestyle videos can be filmed in many ways, but their primary focus is to show people who you are, the culture, and what they can expect by signing up for your gym or services. One approach to a brand/lifestyle video focuses on answering FAQs in a way that fits your style and energy. A good example is a video we did for Denver Bouldering Club a couple of years ago. On the flip side, maybe a fun, creative ad that packs a punch by showing versus telling is more your style. One of our personal favorites that we shot in this style is our Mountain Strong brand anthem featured below:

2. Meet the Team

Companies tend to create “meet the team” posts with images, but videos are much more compelling in this setting. Videos offer a deeper illustration of who someone is, such as style of communication, demeanor, and more. This gives people the opportunity to relate to your team and can be a huge motivation for people to join your gym.

Gyms are often considered a second home for people, so knowing that they’ll get along with staff, trainers, and instructors is all part of the community that quality gyms build. As for your current members, they already have relationships with them, so these posts foster more engagement and conversation on your socials.

You can either create a longer-form video of your whole team or consider breaking it up to create more content with individual videos. Introduce who you are, your roles, background, and personal interests. These videos don’t have to stop after the introductions, rather continue building each employee’s profile by posting videos of them consistently.

3. Educate & Inspire

Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube are the go-to spots for inspiration and education in the fitness space. Producing educational and motivational videos can be a great way to stand out from your competitors and build your community. Again, each one of you is different than the last. The specific knowledge you have to share and the way you inspire will speak to certain people and really build your following online. These topics alone provide an unlimited amount of content you can pull from.

Maybe you have a deeper understanding and passion for nutrition, or perhaps you’ve trained under a master and have acquired unique skills. Ask yourself, “what knowledge can I share?” By educating your audience, you’re establishing expertise in your industry, molding the image that “these people know what they’re doing.”

4. Promotions, events, & classes

Does your gym have seasonal deals, special events, or classes it can advertise? While videos may take more effort than posting a static image or traditional flyer, they are much more memorable and influential to viewers. Visuals are powerful! It’s more of that stretch envy coming into play. Videos make people think, “That looks fun. I want to go!” Or “I want to sign up for a class with an instructor like that.” You’re showing current members what they can get involved in and promoting to prospective members what they're missing out on by not being a member.

Expert tip: Film everything! Film snippets of all your events and classes, especially the ones that your business puts on annually. This content can be used to promote yourself the following year.

5.  Member Testimonials

Testimonial videos from your members are highly effective in promoting your gym or training services. Most consumers look at reviews before purchasing or doing anything these days, and testimonial videos bring your reviews to life. They’re often unformulated, genuine conversations that sound less sales-y than a typical ad. You’re always going to say that you’re great, so first-hand accounts from your members offer an outside perspective, which is seen as more trustworthy.

Final Tips – CTAs & filming:

CTAs: Since these videos are meant to advertise different facets of your business, it’s crucial that you include a CTA (call to action) within all your videos — and around it, if possible. These are critical to the success of your videos. It’s been found that CTAs within a video get 380% more clicks than their normal sidebar CTAs.

Clarity and conciseness pay off here. A quality CTA is direct about the exact action you want your customer to take, for example:

  • Sign up for this class

  • Get your ticket now

  • Become a member now

  • Start your fitness journey today

  • Work with me

Give your customers a noticeable button or link to bring them where they can take this action. Though all of this may seem obvious, it’s an important step for success. There is tons of evidence that people respond to these types of CTAs. They’ve been proven to increase traffic, leads, conversions – you name it.

Filming: We suggest hiring a video production company to create high-quality videos to promote your business more professionally for your website’s landing pages. All the photos in today’s blog are sourced from professional videos our Noble Bison Productions team shot for gyms. However, aim to create consistent content for your socials that focuses on connecting with your community and prospective members weekly or daily. For this, use an iPhone or digital camera to capture everyday content that highlights your brand.
